The children, in their traditional Bhutanese dress, were playing in the yard of the Thuksel Early Learning Center in Paro, Bhutan. The teachers gave me permission to photograph for a few minutes and this group was very excited to line up and pose for me. I was especially taken with the little girl in front who stood perfectly still while everyone around her jostled for position.

Still in Bhutan (photograph was taken Oct 3 2014), we stop at a weaving facility, Gagyel Lhundrup Weaving Centre. In here are a couple of rooms where women are sitting on the floor with their looms, handweaving cloth. The yarn is bright and colourful and the patterns are intricate.

An effort to preserve culture & tradition is a huge part of Bhutan, and one of the areas is in their housing construction. The exterior design of the windows and wood items has been the same for over 100 years.

Traditionally, Bhutanese houses are two stories. The upper floor is used as a living area or chosham and the ground floor is for the cattle.
